The European Tour every week that goes by seems to grow stronger and stronger and it`s players are starting to prove that they deserve to be among the top players in the world. Lee Westwood was given the honor of holding the Number One World Ranking after winning two weeks ago and with Luke Donald not being to win in the playoff in the States the top dog was in his hands.

Then he came out and backed up his number one ranking with a win this week at the Ballentine`s and what better way to prove he is worthy of being Number one with a win thanks to a closing 67.

The Tour this week travels to Barcelona, Spain where they will play the Open de Espana, which this year is being hosted at the Real Club de Golf El Prat. The Real Club de Golf El Prat has numerous courses, but the pros will be playing the new course which was designed by none other than The Shark, Mr.Greg Norman. This course is no stranger to hosting Tour events, the original course was opened back in 1954 and in 1956 it hosted its first Open de Espana, this year will be the eighth time it gets to host this important tournament. This event for being played in Spain and being the Open championship of its country it always has a large amount of Spanish players in the field, this year there will be a total of twentyfive players from Spain trying to win their home tournament which only four players have been able to do in the past. The first being Antonio Garrido who won in 1972 then Seve Ballesteros won the event in 1981, 1985 and in 1995, it was then Sergio Garcia who won it in 2002 and last year it was Alvaro Quiros who lifted the title. Since the tournament was added to the European Tour Internation schedule in 1972 there has never been a back to back winner, but Alvaro Quiros will do his best to pull of this feat this year.

The field has a few of the best European players along with Quiros, there will be Miguel Angel Jimenez who just came of a second place this past week, the young Italian player Matteo Manassero will look to add to his young resume by trying add another win. One player that for sure will attract a good crowd will be Jose Maria Olazabal who still catches the attention of crowds wherever he goes with his laser like iron play. This tournament though will be a good chance for a young new comer to come out and try win their first tournament.
