PGATOUR – John Deere Classic
With one week before we head to England for the British Open the third Major of the year and it will be the second Major is a row where we will be without former World number one, Tiger Woods he decided to withdraw citing he is still suffering from injury and does not want to run the risk of doing further harm.
This event is played in Silvis, Illinois at the TPC at Deere Run and most years the field is not the strongest one, due to the fact that a lot of the better ranked players choose to rest the week before a Major. This is the tournament that gave Michelle Wie two invites to come play against the Men and the first time she caught the eye of the entire nation by finishing one under par for two rounds, but missed the cut by two strokes but it was still an impressive showing.
This year is similar to last year because we have the same defending champion, Steve Stricker has now won the event the last two years and he has done it in a level that mist just dream of with scores that makes one wonder how he did and if he was playing the same course as everyone else. Last year he set the tournament record for both low aggregate score with a four day total of 258 and at the same time he was also able to set the lowest score in comparison to par with a total of twenty-six under par. It is an impressive number if you take into consideration that the course is a par 71 and its layout measures 7,257 yards, when the tournament first was established in 1971 the event was called the Quad Cities Open and over the years the event has changed sponsors and therefore also the name of the event, but since 1999 the event has had the name which it carries right now. There is another player that has pulled of the same feat of winning the event back to back years and that was David Frost who did that in 1992 and 1993 and when he won it the second year he finished a more than impressive twenty-one under par.
