David Haye faces Wladimir Klitschko tomorrow in the most anticipated fight for years in the boxing world.

David Haye, 30, plans to retire in October but hopes to beat both Wladimir and his older brother, now politician, Vitali. Vitali has never been truly beaten, having only 2 losses on record, both of which when he retired hurt, once with a torn rotator cuff in his shoulder and once when he was forced to by a ringside doctor despite his pleas to be allowed to carry on. He faces an even greater challenge later on if he defeats the younger Klitschko, Wladmir, at the weekend.

The Hayemaker won the WBA Heavyweight belt from Nikolay Valuev in 2009 in a match he was expected to lose. If he can repeat the feat then Haye will finally back up the big words he has been spouting for many weeks in the build up to the current battle he has in Hamburg tomorrow.

Haye stands at 6ft 1 compared to Klitschko’s 6ft 4. The big Ukranian will have a huge following but Haye says he expects ‘10,000 to 15,000 British fans’ to be in attendance.

Former World Heavyweight Championship Lennox Lewis tipped Haye to win due to his superior speed and his youth, Klitschko is 5 years older than David Haye. The pre-match war of words has been extreme between the two fighters.

Haye is being investigated by the Boxing Authorities for bringing the sport into disrepute after he posted a link on his twitter to a mock up of Hitler swearing and using obscene language, with comedy subtitles underneath. Klitschko’s representatives have called Haye ‘an idiot’ for trying to wind Klitschko up in this way and said ‘he’s Ukrainian, not German’. Klitscho’s representatives also arrived early at a press conference and blocked the path of Haye and his entourage, forcing them to find an alternative entrance. Haye said of his actions ‘I don’t care as long as they get under his skin’ and the rivalry appears to only be intensifying with Haye seen training with a glove on a stick in attempt to goad his opponent and wearing a t-shirt showing him punching Klitschko’s head off.

The fight was originally organised for 2009 before Haye withdrew through injury, something that Klitschko now holds against him and brings up regularly in their verbal sparring. Klitschko lost his cool at the last press conference and Haye believes he is beginning to rattle the big Ukranian.

Haye has already decided to retire on his 31st Birthday on the 13th of October and so the Klitschko brothers are destined to be his last chance of glory and uniting the Heavyweight belts before he finishes his career. Although, as always with boxing, he will surely have a string of bouts that draw him out of retirement countless times.

But for now, this is what David Haye’s career revolves around, he needs to beat Wladimir to get a shot at Vitali and then beat Vitali to go down in history, something he seems determined to do.
