Lowe to finally pick up another win in Game One at Petco
A couple of fancies in the baseball this evening, the main one being the rather nice price available on the Atlanta Braves I feel this evening at Petco Park as they meet the San Diego Padres. The Braves have had there problems this season, but the month of June has been better and a couple of decent runs have certainly improved the situation in Atlanta. On the mound this evening for the Braves is Derrick Lowe, a man with a vast amount of experience and although at the twilight of his career, he can still chuck a ball. He is 3-5 this season with a 4.10 ERA from his sixteen starts and hasn’t picked up a win in his last nine starts amazingly, that was way back on May 6th against the Phillies. Since then, 0-2 with a 4.96 ERA, not going deep into games, throwing far too many pitches, its been tough, but Petco Park is a very pitcher friendly stadium and Derrick Lowe has had success here, as have the Braves. Lowe is 1-0 with a 2.08 ERA in his last three starts at Petco Park, he didn’t get the decision earlier this season when the Padres did come out on top 5-3 back in April. But the Braves havent lost a series in San Diego since 2005, they have won 15 of the last 21 games at Petco Park and 24 of there last 35 games total against the San Diego Padres. One fact that really stood out in a preview on this game I found online is that Derrick Lowe is 7-0 in his last seven starts after five days rest, and guess whose had an extra day coming into this game? The Padres look a desperate team this season, the batting average is just .233, which is ranked 29th in the MLB, they do come into this game on the back of a successful trip to Fenway Park, but again, here lies a big problem. While the Braves were sat relaxing in a hotel, preparing for this series yesterday, the Padres were in Boston. Now they may have won yesterday 5-1, but Boston to San Diego is some flight when playing the next day, especially with the opposition on a days rest. I will give the San Diego pitcher tonight a mention, because he is in decent form, Tim Stauffer is 2-5 with a 3.13 ERA so far this season, but has only given up one run in the last 22 innings pitched, which is decent form. Weather he will get any assistance from the batting line up this evening is another thing, and although Stauffer is in good form, he isn’t a Cliff Lee.
