Did anyone stay up to watch the enthralling Sunday Night Baseball last night, which for us in the UK, pretty much finished as Monday Morning Breakfast Baseball. Well the Red Sox finished at nearly 2am local time, and today have took the short flight down to Baltimore to meet the Mighty Bird. Now usually you would expect the Red Sox to be strong favourites in Birdland, but being an Orioles fan that does watch a vast amount of there games and having full confidence in the greatest team in baseball, I think the 2.12 on offer this evening, may look a steal. Firstly the pitching duel, Tim Wakefield is on the mound for the Red Sox, the master when it comes to the knuckle-ball, but he has got an ERA of 6.28 in his last three starts. He can be hit at though, and the Orioles are more than capable of hitting him. The Bullpen will be at the bare minimum here due to the game last night and also the amount of injuries that the pitching staff of the Red Sox are currently suffering. On the mound for the Mighty Bird is Brad Bergesen, he is 1-6 with a 5.65 ERA this season, Buck Showalter though has promoted him up to the starting rotation having been in Triple A and being used in the Bullpen since returning. The record may not look great, but against the Red Sox, he has faired better, having an ERA of 3.27 in seven starts against the Red Sox, he will be looking at getting back in the rotation and tonight is his chance. Theres no doubting the strength of the Red Sox batting line up, but no Jed Lowrie or Marco Scutaro, Carl Crawford may be back, but first start in 25 games, Big Papi may also be missing through suspension, as well as Kevin Gregg for the Orioles, but to be honest, not having Kevin Gregg as the closer is a huge positive in my eyes, if you read through my entire baseball blogs collection for the Orioles and the Blue Jays, you would understand my feelings about Gregg. The Red Sox may well feel the pace here and you watch Buck Showalter slow the game down and make them Red Sox feel the tiredness flowing through.
