Chicago White Sox were stung last night by the visiting Washington Nationals in an epic lengthy encounter. The match was tied at three runs apiece until Nationals won it in the fifth extra inning. Sox will be out for revenge tonight. Both sides bull pens will be hoping for solid opening pitching to gain some rest after last night’s excursions. Both sides overall records are fairly even with Nationals marginally better but they lose more than win on the road. One area which might go against Nationals is there manager unexpectedly resigned a few days ago and rumors are flying around about how might take over. Nationals came through last night under the same circumstances though.

Prediction: Aston Villa vs Liverpool

Aston Villa ended their relegation worries with an impressive win at the Emirates, so they are hoping to build on that result when they host Liverpool. The Reds lost at home to Tottenham and thus allowed Spurs to dislodge them from fifth place in the standings, but a win over Villa would be a perfect end of the promising season.

Having encountered numerous problems this term and having been very close to the relegation zone just few weeks ago, everybody at Aston Villa would be very happy with the finish of the season. The Villans have ended the poor run of results in the best possible time, as they beat Arsenal at the Emirates, although we have to say they were lucky to pick up all three points after Arsenal largely dominated the proceedings.

Pac-10 basketball: NBA Draft preview

Oliver Graham

There may not be an NBA season I keep hearing that the work stoppage will last until January, at least but we know there will be a draft today, as mediocre and forgettable as it might be.

And Pac-10 players will be selected, as mediocre as some of them might be.

Before we get to the nitty gritty, please note: Im not including Alec Burks, Colorados sure-fire first rounder, in the projections; the Buffs werent part of the league last season.

In terms of prospects from the 10 continuing schools, at least six and perhaps eight or nine will be selected.

Included in the group are UCLAs Malcolm Lee and Washingtons Isaiah Thomas, who left school early for glory and financial security the non-guaranteed contracts that come with being second-round picks.

Other round two possibilities include Washingtons Matthew Bryan-Amaning and Justin Holiday and Washington States DeAngelo Casto.

(Id be fairly surprised if Stanfords Jeremy Green is selected, making him the first Cardinal player to leave school early for life overseas, or in the D-League.)

(Also, former Oregon center Michael Dunigan, fresh off a stint in Estonia, could go late in the second round. H

Remembering Harmon: A Brush With Greatness

I never saw his swing in person. I never witnessed his majestic home runs. For much of my life, Harmon Killebrew was a legendary name and nothing more.

Perhaps it was fitting that in an old historic ballpark, Harmon Killebrew became a real man to me.

I was working for WFIE-TV in Evansville, Ind., and Killebrew was in town promoting hospice care. At the time, I had no idea what hospice was or why someone would travel from town to town speaking of it. All I knew was that this young memorabilia collector had a baseball or two to get signed.

It was a perfect spring morning with just a little bit of chill in the air.

So the NBA draft finally arrived here and it was not to the surprise of many that the Cleveland Cavaliers who had the number one pick and the number four pick that they Picked the sensational point guard of Kyrie Irving after he only played for Duke Blue Devils for one season. This young player has all the talent one can imagine and he played his heart and soul out in his final game wearing the Blue Devils uniform. Even though it was a tough loss for Duke when they lost in the Sweet Sixteen to Arizona it was great to have watched Irving put up twenty-eight points in his last college game.
